• About our honey

Our Honey is sourced from rural communities in Southeast Asia. We work closely with NGOs and the farmers when we source for honey.
We believe supporting regionally produced honey also challenges the notion that honey produced elsewhere is superior.
Our honey is relatively pricier than supermarket honey as we believe in providing our farmers with a fair wage and selling 100% raw honey. However, we also understand that not everyone can afford our honey. • Packaging

We currently have zero plastics in our packaging and we intend to reduce the amount of single-use packaging. If you want to support us, you can opt for recycled (and cleaned) padding packaging as you check out.

Our founders are big hoarders of good quality padding packaging and their family would be happy to get rid of them and put them to good use! ;)

We are also open to a Bring Your Own Jar refill system, let us know at hello.conscioushoney@gmail.com.

  • Shipping and returns

We currently only ship domestically within Singapore. There is a flat shipping rate of S$5 per order, which will be waived off for orders above S$60.

We usually do not entertain exchanges or returns. However, if you are unsatisfied with your order, please reach out to us at hello.conscioushoney@gmail.com within 2 days of receiving your package. (Sediments and white foam on top of your honey are normal and natural)

We are a small home business and there is always room for improvement. We want to hear you out and make sure you enjoy our honey.

  • What is this white foam I see on top of my honey?

This is honey foam you’re looking at – completely normal and natural as our honey is 100% natural and without artificial sugars.

The foam is caused by air bubbles within the honey finding its way to the top after it’s jarred. It is nutritionally dense and you can stir it in with the rest of your honey.

If you have any concerns, feel free to drop us a mail at hello.conscioushoney@gmail.com.

  • What does 100% raw honey mean?

Our honey is not processed, pasteurised, or adulterated with sugar syrups. This means that bee pollen and bee propolis can be present in the honey, giving you antibacterial properties, among other raw honey benefits.

As with pasteurised honey and other products with honey, raw honey is not recommended for infants under 12 months due to their underdeveloped digestive systems. Clostridium botulinum bacteria, found in contaminated soil or dust, can be present in honey and other foods such as fermented or canned foods. It may cause an adverse reaction in infants under 12 months. Older children and adults with matured digestive systems are equipped to fight off bacterial spores.

  • I see sediments in my honey, is it normal?

You might find minuscule or really tiny sediments within your honey as our honey is 100% raw and goes through a simplified filtration system right from the beehive into your jar. It has not been pasteurised so it retains all the antioxidants and goodness.

Infused honey may contain residues from the special blend of spices or ingredients - all of which are safe to consume.

  • Why is your honey relatively expensive?

Let’s face it – there is a reason why certain things are cheap. We want to make sustainable honey the new norm. Paying a premium for sustainable honey helps to incentivize beekeepers to adopt and maintain our Sustainability Principles & Criteria to protect the bees, forests, beekeepers’ welfare, and prevent honey fraud.

We also pay our beekeepers fairly. We purchase honey directly from the apiary, which means the middle-person is cut out and beekeepers receive most of the proceeds.

  • Is Conscious Honey organic?

We do not require our beekeepers to possess organic certification to be considered sustainable. This is because the organic certification can be extremely costly and has to be renewed frequently. Therefore, it is a recurring expense and takes a cut of the beekeeper’s revenue.

To be certified organic, beekeepers also have to ensure that their neighbouring farmers are also certified organic so that they can maintain their certification. This is challenging to communities who are marginalised or lower-income and may not have the resources to relocate. Areas where bees forage would also have to be controlled to only certified organic farms, altering their natural flight paths.

Contrary to popular belief, organic does not automatically mean “pesticide-free” or “chemical-free”. Pesticides and chemicals may still be used if derived from natural sources instead of synthetically manufactured. As listed in our Sustainability Principles & Criteria, our suppliers are prohibited from using Chloramphenicol.

  • Who is behind Conscious Honey?

Conscious Honey was founded by two long-time friends who met in junior college and are now professionals in the fields of design and business, and agri-sustainability.

Conscious Honey is a Singapore-based home business that curates and sells sustainable honey grown in South-East Asia. We want to create a movement where people are conscious of what they purchase and how it is produced.

We aim to educate the public about the declining bee population, its crucial role in the food system, and how the public can support bees by purchasing honey grown sustainably.

  • Adopted charities

Every few months, we donate 5% of our profits to an adopted charity.

In March 2022, we donated to International Rescue Committee (IRC) to aid Ukrainian refugees. See here.
